How to Prioritize Core Web Vitals by Revenue, Not Just Technical Severity
Blue Triangle is a Revenue Assurance platform. Core Web Vitals tell you where experience is struggling. They do not, by themselves, tell you which fix protects the most revenue. This guide is the decision layer on top of the diagnosis.
Blue Triangle's Core Web Vitals diagnosis lives on the Core Web Vitals page inside Resolve.
My LCP is poor but that page does not sell. What do I fix first?
Direct answer: Fix the work that protects the most revenue at stake, not only the worst technical score. A moderate issue on checkout can outrank a severe score on a page that rarely converts. Use Revenue Opportunity alongside Core Web Vitals reports and VitalScope drill-downs.
What are LCP, INP and CLS?
| Metric | What it measures | Google's "good" threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | How long the main content takes to appear | 2.5 seconds or less |
| Interaction to Next Paint (INP) | How quickly the page responds when a visitor taps, clicks or types | 200 milliseconds or less |
| Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | How much the layout jumps around while the page loads | 0.1 or less |
Google defines these metrics and thresholds (see web.dev). Blue Triangle measures them on real visits and helps you decide which to fix first.
How do I rank fixes?
Score each candidate on four things, not severity alone:
- Reach: how many real sessions hit this page or step?
- Opportunity: how many estimated dollars does Revenue Opportunity show for this page?
- Effort: how much engineering work is the fix?
- Risk: how likely is the fix to break something else?
The output is a backlog item that names the page, the metric, and the estimated business reason to act.
What does that look like in practice?
Illustrative example.
| Candidate | Reach | Opportunity | Effort | Risk | Decision |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Severe LCP on a blog archive page | Low | Low | Medium | Low | Backlog |
| Moderate INP on mobile checkout | High | High | Medium | Medium | Fix first |
| CLS on product pages from a late-loading banner | High | Medium | Low | Low | Fix next |
The worst score in the list, the blog archive's LCP, ranks last, because few sessions reach it and little revenue depends on it.
What is the workflow from signal to backlog?
- Pull Core Web Vitals reports from real-user data and, where you use it, synthetic tests.
- Drill into underperforming metrics with VitalScope, which shows the elements behind a poor LCP, INP or CLS on real visits.
- View Revenue Opportunity by Core Web Vitals selector to see which elements on your money pages carry the most estimated dollars.
- Apply reach, opportunity, effort and risk, then write the engineering story with page, metric and business reason.
- After release, confirm the metric moved and compare business results in Validate.
